Central teams 4-4 on day 3

All four Central singles and pairs representatives split their games on day 3 at the US Championships. In the morning session against South Central, only Bob Schneider & Joe Zinna came out with a victory at 14-12. Anna Witt and Glorianne Mather came up just short, losing 13-15. Singles players Steve Nelson and Charlene Harmon both lost, 13-21 and 14-21 respectively.In the afternoon games against Southwest Stars, second-year bowler Charlene Harmon's steady play all week finally paid off in an electricfying 21-18 win, Harmon's first of the tournament.  Harmon's win is all the more memorable in that it came against newly inducted Hall-of-Fame bowler, Heather Stewart.Nelson and Steve Smith were locked in a sea-saw match, but then Smith scored a two and back-to-back 4s to lead 15-7. Nelson whittled away at the lead before scoring 7 points in the last three ends to win in a 21-20 squeaker. Witt and Mather won in convincing fashion 28-12. Schneider and Zinna ran into a hot skip and dropped their game 12-21.No Central teams/players are in position for gold, but silver medals are still possible for the men's pairs and singles as well as women's pairs.Current win-loss records: Nelson 4-2; Harmon 1-5; Schneider-Zinna 3-3; Witt-Mather 3-3. Play concludes with one game on Wednesday.
